I bought a new car (the "I wanna be like Gugs" thread)...

What was the Mach 1 like? I remember you saying something about how hard it was to drive in winter, but isn't that when Ford started making traction control standard on their Mustangs?

Dear Santa,

I want a Dodge Ram 2500 Power Wagon, but 25% smaller in every way because they are too big to do any serious offroading in. 5.9L diesel + 6-speed of course.

Also, I don't want to pay for it, and I want to keep my WRX for the non-dirt weekends.

Cheers and fuck,
NAD

What will you do when, the day after the warranty expires, the transmission spins off into a million tiny little pieces?
Doesn't Dodgey make a larger diesel than that? Something like 6.7L with 600 lb-ft? I just read about it last night but that was a long time ago and I can't remember exactly.

I don't drive automatics, and I think (read: assume) they still use an NV4500, and you can drop grenades into those things and they just laugh at you. Maybe a synchro goes out, but I always double clutch anyhow, so fuckit.

I only drive the WRX about once a week these days, which is cool because I get to really appreciate it when I do, but at the same time it's almost wasteful to keep it. 22 more payments... ugh.

My wife actually just traded in her Mini for a Honda Civic LX. I have a cousin whose a Sales Manager at a Honda dealer and he cut us a pretty sweet deal. We cut her monthly car pay by half (from $500 to under $250). I'm very impressed with just how nice this car is, and how sleek it is, for under $16K. I might actually consider the new Honda Accord Coupe, when my lease expires in April.

oh man ... just saw this as we are getting close to $3.50/gallon again

Here's a list of some of the biggest budget busters on the market, including tank size and how much it costs to fill an empty tank at $3.50 a gallon.

As the price of gasoline rises, owners of more economical vehicles like the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry will also get wallet shock. Both cars come with 18.5-gallon gas tanks that would cost $64.75 for a fill-up.

so I am digging the Mazda, more than I thought I would ...

however MINI is releasing this little beast in the US in February ... kickass!

Those BigMINIs looks sorta weird, but sorta cool. So the Mazda is rad? That's rad. :loco:

Ugh, I simply cannot stand any study that uses the term of "miles per tank" because it makes no sense. MPG is the only figure that really matters, and even that actual witnessed figures, not some stupid EPA estimate which up until last year (and maybe even still, not sure yet) were completely bogus. I've only purchased two new vehicles but neither one comes anywhere close to the EPA estimates. Anywho...

Friend of mine bought one of these for his wife:

He took me for a spin and the next day my WRX felt slow for the first time ever, that car is ridiculously fast. Not that I'd trade up another $16,000 for an automatic transmission with more solenoids in the dashboard than 4 of my cars put together, but still. Neat. :Spin:

I might look into the 1-series when it comes out, but only if I can get one with a manual and a whole lot less bells and whistles on the inside, for well under $30k. If not, fuckit.

dude the 1 series has been getting ridiculously great reviews ... and of course you can get manual ... its standard on all beemers.

Yeah but I live in California, base models and manual trannies are special order items out here, especially in such a fashionmobile as a Bimmer.

I told my friend "I'll buy a BMW for the woman some day, the only stipulation is that it has to be a manual," to which he said his dealer knows they exist, but had never seen one. Gay.

is it because of traffic that people don't buy manual? ... because otherwise CA seems like an ideal place to have one.

but anyway, if you are going to get a beemer its best to customize one anyway ... 8 weeks tops and you'll have it.

It's because most people that live in (southern) California are lazy drivers. Not that the traffic isn't horrible and getting worse all the time, but nobody considers it a sport, or anything fun. It's like something we all do because public transportation is about as voluntary as rape.

Probably just do the custom job then. Getting one is at least a few years away, I mean I only bought the WRX because I just broke up with my girlfriend of 4 years, I'm going back to used 4WD whatever after this car. :loco:

i hear ya ... the Mini was a good replacement g/f also :Smug:

BAH! @ cost-per-fill-up reports. Sounds like something my math-challenged wife would come up with.

Also, the wife's Subaru is falling apart. The world's "safest" car has a broken driver's seatbelt. Nice! Also, check engine light on. Cruise control light flashing. One year old tires wearing thin. Alignment impossible to correct. Lightbulbs burn out like it's a Volvo. No more Subarus for me.

Also, I'm getting a motorcycle.

Also, or maybe a Land Cruiser.

this is the car I want in a few years:

Those. Are. Fucking. RAD. This continent only got the gay Skyline (which are still cool, just not as cool as the older ones). This one is going to smoke so many vehicles out there. I'll never be able to afford/justify one.

god dammit, that blows. My WRX has been an absolute tank, at 4 years and 56k miles. I hope it stays the same, but I have no idea. *knocks on wood* The only problems I know that are well documented are blow'd up transmissions, but I've attributed that to people doing clutch dumps with 200+ lb./ft. of torque on an AWD system, which is just stupid.

I wheeled in Death Valley a few weeks ago in some dude's Jeep, an older YJ in pretty good shape. Even after a 5 year gap between wheelin' I have never been in a vehicle that inspired more confidence, and I've owned multiple 4WD vehicles. I'll be getting a YJ as soon as the woman is ready to sell her dad's inheritance (a 6 year old Dodge pickup, haha).

If Toyota ever released any of their Australian market Land Cruisers over here, I would buy one, but they won't, so I have to get a Jeep. The FJ Cruiser is a piece of shit, god damn IFS.

EDIT: oh yeah but my WRX eats light bulbs like god damn candy, wtf?

the Skyline is out here next year? ... limited production in the US?

them shits will be bought by every Z boy
