I think some people are confusing "respect for what Meshuggah does technically" with "enjoying what Meshuggah does".

Just because I'm a metal head that respects what they do, doesn't mean I have to enjoy their music. Like I said, good musicians. Boring to listen to after awhile.

Anyone who thinks that people don't like certain bands based on popularity is an idiot.

Are you kidding me? Just because you don't judge a band based on popularity (kudos) doesn't mean there is an entire drove of people that do. Poser kids getting into extreme metal, elitists and hipsters are some of the stereotypical groups that would do just such a thing. You and Cythraul are the last two people on this forum I'd think to have an actual optimistic belief that there exists NO musical prejudice...

Depends on what you consider prejudice. There's a difference between people not liking, say, Dimmu Borgir because they have commercial musical aspects that are contradictory to an UNDERGROUND genre of music and disliking them without listening to their music simply because they're popular.

Yeah, well I was referring to most of the posters on this forum in which case, yes, most of them don't have what I'd call "legit" taste in metal period. There are people outside of this forum that have similar tastes to me.

That song posted earlier sounds like nu-metal with disjointed riffs.

Which song are you talking about, and what nu metal sounds like it?

lol @ thinking black metal is a "legit" form of metal.

I'm sure there are.

What's so illegitimate about most of these people's tastes in metal? Last I checked it was pretty legit to listen to lots of different bands in different subgenres and pick the ones you like best.

The song posted on the last page (I think). The song is very rhythmic and reminds me of some Korn or Slipknot songs I've heard, just a little more "math" oriented.

Only two songs have been posted and you can't bother to name which, and for an example of nu metal you can only give the most blatantly derogatory band names. Sorry, you failed.

Oh, and lol @ "rhythmic" somehow being an untr00 characteristic of metal.

EDIT: But since it's probably New Millennium Cyanide Christ I'll just assume that you consider palm-muting and thrash chuggery to be nu metal, and hence further prove yourself to be some black "metal" ambient loving hmfg.

How is my having name-dropped "derogatory" nu-metal bands as a (vague) comparison relevant? Purely rhythmic songwriting is a common trait in nu-metal. Tr00ness aside (which is a fucking cop-out argument I might add), I don't care for metal that uses purely rhythmic songwriting and has more in common with niggerdom than metal. Anyone that has any knowledge of the genre wouldn't mistake Meshuggah for thrash.

I could make the argument that you didn't even bother to look back a page to see what song I'm talking about and that being an indicator of your failure but I don't care enough, quite frankly.

I've never cared to check this band out until in this thread and I honestly think that those two songs posted here are both really fucking bad.

Check out this medley, skip to 1:00 if you are not a fan of drum solos:

For me a comment like this is completely fine, and i DO except not everyone likes meshuggah. I just dont understand the whole meshuggah is shit attitude. There are plenty of bands that im not huge on, but if they are good musicians i have enough respect to say that its not for me.. Not just simply dismissing it as shit, boring or Fucking Nu metal..

Really? I didn't know I ever held such a belief but thanks for informing me.

what does Meshuggah, a bunch of Swedish white guys, have to do with "niggerdom?"

I'm pretty sure he's referring to a characteristic of their music. Whether or not they're white is irrelevant to that.

I had listened to them a long time ago and I haven't liked them, but many years have passed so perhaps if I listened to them now I would like them. Perhaps.
