Next Opeth Album

^ Dude thats bollocks. I mean, if you look at it like that, the songwriting in ALL of Opeth's albums will be pretentious. I don't mean to sound like a fanboy or anything, but that makes no sense.

This threat means that you didn't like Watershed.....how can you think about the next release and you don't even have the official lyrics of the new one lol.
It's gonna be like an image of Mike and the rest of the guys mood lol

I guess it's because we like Opeth.. and.. you know.. you always want more even if it's great. Wanted to make a comparison with drugs but.. there, I just prefer saying that I wanted to.

But he does have a good point that it is stupid talking about a new album already .... this started after GR as well actually, and then so many things happened, all influencing what would become Watershed.
WS is just so new still, and they are going to tour for at least another year and a half! What's the point in discussing a new album already?? Maybe if WS is a dissapointment for you and you can't experience anything from it anymore, it makes sense ...

Well, I'm always saying they should tour less and produce more (since Mike apparently comes up with a shitload of material anyway, and with the new line-up there definitely is enough inspiration gathered to produce amazing new things). But you guys want them to tour this much as well ... make up your mind, either you get more material, or either you get more tours!
I prefer the tradition of the sixties and seventies when a new album came every year, sometimes even 2 per year! And I'm sure Opeth has enough inspiration to create and develop much more material.

I'd like to see something a little heavier. Mike will probably want to keep moving in the direction of Watershed. I'm sure he's a good enough song writer that he can find a way to do both.

I want more heavier stuff too. This is what Watershed lacks.Besides that,it is a great album musically.

Mike and Opeth will make the music they want to make. The moment they start pandering to Fans, asking for them to take a step back musically to BWP or Still life or whatever, is the moment they sell themselves commercially. I hope and believe that Opeth will never do that.

The excitement of a new Opeth album is wondering what they'll do next. I personally reckon we will see an absolutely brutal next album, but thats just a guess. Mike could do a funk/jazz/bluegrass fusion album and I'd probably still buy it ;)

see, this is exactly what I'm talking about when i say that Opeth have cornered themselves into a pretty bad situation. every new Opeth album has to be "more progressive then the last", otherwise "they've sold out".

but being more and more ..."progressive"...at this point in their career generally means less song structure, more odd time signatures and more keyboards. hell, just look at GR and watershed. i may be in the minority here, but i'd just rather have good music.

I'm not saying they have to be more "progressive". But expecting them to bring out an album that sounds like BWP or whatever is wrong.

And I disagree that GR or Watershed are overtly progressive to a detriment of the music. GR has some of Opeth's best songwriting in my opinion.

I would say Opeth are screwed by their fans... whatever they do people won't be happy. It will either be too different or it will be too samey. We've only ourselves to blame tbh.

what exactly about it doesn't make sense?

The bit where he says that Opeth's songwriting is becoming a bit pretentious. If you look at it like that it could be argued that Opeth's songwriting has always been so (length of songs, arrangement, etc), which makes his whining quite pointless. I for the most part agree with you, I was a bit dissapointed with Watershed, though I did love GR, so what do I know

If we are talking about next Opeth album... For Me:

- More Growl (70% growl - 30% clean vocals)
- More Heavy/Raw Production
- Less Keys, More Accoustic Guitars
- Longer Songs (more 10+ minutes)
- More Blast Beats
- Overall heavier and a bit longer album (60-65 minutes)

Yeah ! And more pop songs please! Growling sux and all those heavy shits are annoying ! I hope Tiesto will be a guest in the next opeth album hahahha
Come on pleople !!!! Stop this stupid thread !
