When you say "Cole", I thought you were talking about Thomas Cole....and then I thought "wtf those aren't Cole's works". I probably wouldn't refer to a Contemporary artist who has the same surname as an old master by his surname. It's confusing.

Also, I know it's just my shitty little opinion, but I like the original TC better. :p

Mount Etna, 1844

I've seen this painting in person AS WELL AS been the the actual place and painted the same exact spot as he did, but it's a sketch in watercolor. It's Mount Etna in Sicily. It was incredible. Looks similar still to this day except in the distance it's covered in buildings and such, of course.

Yeah, that occurred to me, but I did have the guy's full name in the post immediately before that.

Thomas Cole is definitely the shit. I've got a print of The Voyage of Life - Youth in my room. I saw the whole series in the national gallery a few years ago; it was fantastic.

I don't know what I can say about Beksinski, other than a lot of his paintings just appeal to me immensely. The colours, the mood, the scale, the detail. I don't even know what he's trying to...'say', but it looks beautiful.

This is fucking amazing:

Makes me feel inept and useless. I've wanted to purse art, or design...all the way to engineering and architecture as a career, but anything I've done is so shallow. Plus, I hate 'topics' that are set in Art&Design in school as I usually end up thinking 'wtf?' and doing something bad. Oh well. It's a useful subject to keep my options open.

And it's 1am over here so I probably ranted.

^^Oooh, you know your stuff, I apologize. =)

edit: To above- Beksinski is on every other page of this thread...... Is there any other artist Metalheads like? =\

No. He's just too metal.

And hey...don't put ideas into my head.

Edit: Well, I do love Escher. Mindfuckery. And surreal art. And religious art. Basically anything that instantly 'works' for me, gets my spine tingling. I like pretty things *_*

Oh, and a few sci-fi artists. I wish I knew why most people who do 40k art seem to be UNABLE TO DRAW OR PAINT A FUCKING BOLT PISTOL PROPERLY.

Indeed...I had the chance to see an entire gallery full of monolithic works of his. Very breathtaking "abstract" impressionism. Though they don't particularly represent anything concrete, there is a great deal of structure put into his pieces in terms of space, choice of color, and form.

I loves my Warhammer illustrations. Unfortunately, Games Workshop don't sttribute artists to particular images throughout their books most of the time. And only some of them have websites :(

I love this one by the way, it really sums up the scene of total good versus total evil. Which is which depends on your stance I suppose!

It's pretty awesome to see the Emperor pre-invalid though, in all his battlegear. Poor old Sanguinius.
