The Art Thread

A piece from my thesis stuff... A lot of you have seen this before, but I want to stroke myself by posting it again and also have some art with actual EMOTION in it on this page. Everything above me here, the people are devoid of any emotion. It's all about technicality and cool guns that are really big and futuristic looking. Although I appreciate the drawing skill, fantasy stuff like that bores me. There's so much going on in every composition it's making me yawn instead of drawing me in.

If I post a picture of what I'm working on right now, would anyone want to give me some useful feedback? It's just a portrait, but of course I like to hear what people have to say that might make it better.

A)It's a fantasy illustration for a comic book or something.

B) Seen a million different versions of the same fucking thing before, but better. Big ugly scary monster dude gets hot naked nymph. SO ORIGINAL OMG.

C) It's cheesy as all get-out.

edit: D) The guy doesn't even have a body. He's wings, arms, nothingness and then a tail that comes out of the nothingness. His structure is not convincing, nor is it entirely convincing that he's really holding her. She looks super-imposed and her arms wrapped around his head look like they meld together to create that upside down triangle. Her hands turn into nubs or something. Not that my paintings have never had anatomical mistakes...but that's just shit.

That doesn't make it not art. It just means that you don't like it.

=/ Illustration is different from fine art.... Hence it being called "Illustration" not "fine art".

I don't usually like illustrations, especially cheesy fantasy ones.

The debate of what makes things illustrations vs. what makes them fine art is infinite though, so let's not start. It's definitely not fine art though.

However, I hope you all do realize that there are illustrations and then there is fine art. They are not one in the same. They are all art, but they are under seperate categories. Calling that fine art is like calling Morbid Angel Viking Metal. It's just not.

We don't need new ones since the old ones still apply.

And "fine art" is not an actual categorization.

Hhahaha yes it is, wtf. Do you know what fine art is??

My teachers and I have debated many many times about what makes something an illustration vs fine art.

Cheesy fantasy art with hot naked chicks in it ftw!

Art is objective. Something that makes a statment to you and has meaning to you does not necessarily have the same effect on someone else.

I'm all about pieces without emotion, which make you think about stuff other than how sad/painful/drama-filled/etc. someone's life is. A conceptually complex work of art is my favorite kind (although I don't really consider battle scenes complex since everyone in them is usually doing the same thing, as you pointed out).

Assuming that my feedback means anything to you, sure, I'll give you feedback. I'll do my best not to judge it based on how many cool guns and undead creatures there are in the scene. :p

Yeah, post more pics like that!

Here's another by Royo:

I don't really have any more stuff like this that isn't just blatantly cheesy/tastless/retarded. Usually when I'm looking for pictures of hot chicks, it's in photograph form. :)

What on earth makes you think we want to see some bitch bleeding out of her snatch?
