You don't get it.

Anyone who wants to have a go at criticizing my current painting is welcome to now. To Richard above^^: It's your formed opinion that the blood is coming from her vagina, however, that doesnt mean it is. I left it up to the viewer to decide. Though interesting that's the one thing you noticed, especially considering she's dead/decaying from the waist downwards.

So my shitty digital camera was being even worse tonight. I could not get a good photograph of my painting for the life of me. So here we are. There is flash residue on them as well as the proportions being skewed because of the angle (I didn't bother with the tripod). So although it looks like his hand is far too large for his body, it's simply the angle I took the picture at. In reality he looks perfectly proportioned.

If you want me to try getting a better photo I will.




 
Yeah and I know you're saying that just because you don't like Andy. But if you'd stop being a cock for one second you'll see this isn't about Andy, it's about a fucking painting.
 
I don't know anything about him, I just know that he looks like an obnoxious cunt, and that mustache ain't helping any.
 
Interesting take... But if you saw it in context with the other half of my thesis, or if you were knowledgeable in mythology, you'd see it is Hel the beast of the underworld from the Norse myths. (lol I even wrote "Hel" under it) =P

Hmm... well, here's the stuff that stands out for me about the painting:

Not sure if this was intentional or not, but the guy's facial expression looks unusually serious/focused compared to the rest of him - clothes, posture, hair, etc. I would expect more apathy in the face of a character like that.

The cheeks look kind of chubby or oddly-proportioned somehow - maybe from how the shading is done.

I notice you do that dominant-color thing again (brown this time). I still think this makes the piece feel less organic/dynamic (although a lot of that might actually be the lack of texture and 'speckliness' in the piece). Something else to think about, I guess.

Besides that, it looks pretty awesome - well-proportioned (taking camera angle into account), good detail (i.e. the messy hair, the folds in clothing, etc.), and the coloring on the subject is pretty realistic.

Oh - the background's pretty bland, of course, but I'm sure you're aware of that. :)

Why do you feel he should be apathetic? To me Andy is a paradox-----The good looking guy that everyone loves (guys and girls) but he's still a virgin and has never even had a girlfriend. The fact he is mixing 19th century facial stylings (handlebar mustache) with a very 21st century style of ear piercings and gauges. (His gauge mimicks his mustache well, no?) He's the serious artist meets the class clown. He's 6'.5" of pure man but he acts more like a teddy bear around his friends. Andy's not what you expect, at all... And if his temperment was clashing at the time when I had him pose for me (He's trying to look relaxed but he's clearly not) then I'm glad that came through in the finished result. =)

Andy's got a bit of baby fat on him still and he's got very chubby cheeks. :)

This part I don't understand--- Are you just saying there's too much brown? I can understand that... But is that what you're saying? Perhaps I'll add more greens into the background?

Should I have done the Victorian thing where I put a window behind him and the window looks out into a lovely landscape and on the window are lush, red curtains that frame the painting? :p
