The Most Universally Respected Bands (among metalheads)

I must have spelt that wrong. I'm just curious about that one band, I'm not going to go through the whole playlist & I didn't mean to sound like I implied I planned on doing all that. I have plenty of other stuff I'm much more interested in I haven't gotten around to checking out yet like Vinterland, Negura Bunget, & Limbonic Art.

Yikers, thanks  I have heard of them before, but not heard their music.

I looked them up & I need to add more Doomy stuff to my collection. I'm more or less into Black & Progressive stylings dominantly & Doom just kind of wound up getting the shaft with me with a few exceptions.

Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden

How about Dio? People pay him respect every time they flash the :headbang: I guess he first started using that in Black Sabbath though right? Oh well I still like Dio.

or I dont like bands just because everyone else does... the instrumentals to Maiden are alright but the vocals make me cringe

I not gonna bother reading all 10 other pages of this topic.

I've seen a lot of really old bands mentioned who are respected for the influence they had in metal. That's all well and good, but I'd like to put forth a number of newer bands that I have seen little to no hate or bashing of, that may not be the oldest or hugest metal band around.

Windir. (Came around in the mid-late 90's, and is regarded as a class-A viking/folk/black metal act, and many people herald Valfar as a musical wizard in both life and death)

Atheist (These guys were around in the veyr late 80's, and only released 3 albums. 'Unquestionable Presence' seems to be considered a true cult death metal classic, and almost all their work is in high-regards. I have never seen hate on Atheist, though some people didn't care for 'Elements' which they considered too proggy and jazzy. These guys also influenced Tech/Jazz/Prog metal for the new generations of groups.)

Definitely not Pantera

Definitely not. They are what started this whole thread.

I really don't think Windir applies here because a vast section of metalheads just don't care about them

I agree. I don't think this has to do with *only* a lack of disrespect. It has to do with bands that are widely known, at least by "real" metalheads, and remain respected.

I was going to suggest Pavor, as noone in their right mind would disrespect their music, but they may not be well-known enough to really count.
