The Official Movie Thread

i'm firmly in catching up with 2020s cinema mode again, and since i think my taste is roughly at a crossroads between chaw, slant and my rym friend charts, here's a list of all the films that made a top ten of the year in 2 out of 3 lists (EDIT: decided to factor in my top 10 criticker predicted scores for each year too):

more consensus this year than any other it seems. i've only seen three out of this whole pile: first cow, which i really like, bloody nose empty pockets, which i like, and vitalina varela, which i'm indifferent to.

Part 2 is my favourite by a cunt hair.
The Godfather trilogy are probably my most watched films of all time. I wanna say ive probably seen all of em about 15 times.

3 isnt bad, but compared to the other two? Not even in the same league .... not even fucking close. 1 and 2 are 5 star masterpieces ..... but it i had to pick one itd definitely be part 2. The Deniro/young Vito scenes are not only the best part of the whole trilogy, but some of the best in all of cinema.

Re: Godfather 2, I've seen it three times now and each rewatch I've thought I'll finally get why some people think it's as good as or better than 1. But nah, each time it lulls me to sleep. It's a 3:20 crime epic but I feel like way less happens in it than the first one. The Vito flashbacks are the best part but they add nothing to the present-day storyline and basically tell us nothing about Vito's character we couldn't have assumed from his portrayal in the first film.

I don't have any strong feelings on 3 one way or the other. I watched the Coda version, and I'm not sure how different it is but I think it might've cut some of the most egregious Sofia Coppola scenes because she came out alright in that edit. I gave it a charitable 3/5 because I thought I was too stupid to follow the plot, but in hindsight it is really fucking poorly presented and expects too much familiarity with Papal banking scandals of the 80s.
