The "What Are You Doing This Moment" Thread

Braintree is the weirdest name for a town ever, I've always wondered the origin of it...

 I was just about to respond with the same thing before I read your post.

Seriously... how the hell did someone ever come up with a name like "braintree"?

Chillin'. Late start tomorrow (10:30), so I get to sleep in till 9:00. Problem is, I'll wake up at 7:00 anyways.

Keep in mind the state of the English language when the town got that name. It was nearly a thousand years before the Modern English words "brain" and "tree" were developed.

Stupid English people. Wait...it was named pre-Roman conquest? Or wait, no...confused. That wikipedia excerpt could use some dates.

The Roman conquest was in the 1st century AD, a few hundred years before the Angles and Saxons settled Britain.

The Norman conquest was in 1066, and at that time, the locals were mostly speaking Old English, which is nothing like Modern English (Shakespeare wrote in Modern English, fyi).

That's what they say, but then you go and try to read that shit and it's all with the bullshit words that people never really said anyways...

jk.
Yeah...trying to figure this out chronologically. It was still the Britons back then...then the Saxons started coming in the...400s?
This is where those Marion Zimmer Bradley books come in handy...
