The "Who Am I" thread...

Astounding Evan, great not only to see such a young person developing so much into music but to want to share the old school flame with the old farts in here

Just read the rules, keep on posting and enjoy the best forum on Earth. Welcome!

I don't think I ever actually introduced myself really, just turned up and started posting  How exceedingly rude of me...

My name is Joe, I'm 27 and a long time fan of old-school metal, particularly Iron Maiden who got me into metal at the age of ten and became something of an obsession for me. I have all their albums and singles on multiple formats, all picture discs and box sets they ever released, 35 T-shirts, etc. etc... Actually I'm almost ashamed to be such a fanboy. I'm not quite as obsessed as I used to be, having become embroiled in the dark world of thrash metal and become something of an obsessive on that too  Perhaps I just have an addictive personality...

I sing (or shout, or something) in a band called Thrashist Regime, who are recording an album at the moment using pro-tools and a proper professional setup... so hopefully it'll sound great. Spent ten years in my previous band, Black Atom, who had a lot of local success but not much else...

I have two degrees with excellent results, an undergraduate degree in English and a masters degree in Literary Studies. As such I am occasionally guilty of being a grammar nazi...

Currently I work in an art-house cinema but plan to get a better-paid job in the new year because I've been fannying about putting it off for over a year now and I'm sick of having no money.

Oh yeah, I live in Bonnie Scotland...

Also, my internet access is unreliable so if I disappear and don't post for weeks on end it's not because I hate you...

:)

Wait a second, what's with all the ellipses and no capital on "nazi"?

its teh intranent ninfecting me!!1 n000000000

In all seriousness, the elipses are a bad habit. And as for the capitalisation, I hold my hands up. Though not in the manner of a Nazi saluting.

Actually language on the internet is an interesting issue. Given that it represents the spoken word in a sitaution like a forum, perhaps the use of elipses can be forgiven... in speech the end of a sentence often tails off in a manner less forceful or marked than a full-stop in written language would suggest.

Really my main problem with the internet is the abuse of the apostrophe.

Anyway, what the fuck, let's talk about thrash :)

Hi,

So yeah, i'm totally fucking new and no one knows who the hell I am, so listen up. My name is Hannah, i'm 17, tall blonde fighting the dumb blonde stereotype (and usually failing at it :Smug: ) guitarist of a year and a half, and Pokemon addict. 8)

I live on the west coast of USA, and the only live show i've been to is Mayhem Fest. Lame. :erk: But I will likely be seeing Slayer for the second time, Megadeth and Korpiklaani in January. :D

Hannah, ever check out any of Mike Keneally's shows out there?
GREAT guitar player, who does a wide variety of music. As an aspiring guitarist, you should really check him out.
Welcome aboard!

Hey, I made an intro thread, but fuck it. I'm Sam. I'm 16 and from Simsbury, CT. I am a Junior in high school. I play the bass and I enjoy old metal more than newer stuff.

I get distracted a lot. I sometimes am writing a post and abandon it because something else catches my eye. I play a lot of Rock Band. I only have guitar, so I do Expert Guitar and Bass. I have 2 videos up of me on my youtube account (samlikenoble) and I have a few more I need to edit and put up.

I like punk as well as metal. I go to local shows a lot in the summer, so I know a lot of CT/MA punk/rockabilly/psychobilly bands. Its all good to me. You can chat with my on AIM or MSN at any time. I'm here to give advice or answer questions or anything. I'm here to talk.

I posted pics in the 2 other pics threads so................you know.

Hello all - have posted a couple times in other places but somehow skipped over UMOS until recently - my apologies...

Let's see... My name is Greg. Born in 1974. Raised in southern CA and living in the central area for about the past 15 years. Have been a metal fan since the early 80's when I first started hearing the more popular NWOBHM and American bands on the radio. Have never really played an instrument before, although I play mean air guitar/drums.

Been with the same woman since 1998 & married since 2004 - she's not really a metalhead but she balances me out nicely in musical tastes (and tolerates mine). I will be in her debt for a while since she bought me sixth row seats for Kiss in November last year (GREAT show!)

We have an awesome little boy who will be 3 next week - it's something else to watch him grow up but bums me out at the same time that he can't grow up a little slower. Already letting him listen to dad's musical tastes (at a reduced volume!) and he seems to dig it.

I have a decent-paying job where I enjoy working with my fellow bottom-feeders, but would walk away from it in a minute (IF I won the lottery) due to upper level politics and BS.

Like to travel when time and money allow, which isn't much lately. Only been to a few other US states, and my worldly travels have been limited to Mexico and Canada. I enjoy taking pictures and photography but I'm not going to win any awards (nor do I intend to). I've always been a video game geek - remember fondly playing on the Atari 2600 when it came out, and the family currently plays on our Wii, where within a short time my little boy will start whooping dad's @$$.

OK, metal stuff: My fav bands seem to generally fall under the thrash, heavy, speed and power sub-genres, but I try to have an open ear for any kind of metal (and other music for that matter). Just to name a few old & new INPO: Testament, Heathen, Ravage, Dream Evil, Evile, Exodus, Dark Tranquillity, Maiden, Kiss, Lazarus A.D., Megadeth, and the older stuff of Metallica, Anthrax, Metal Church, etc...etc.

Looking forward in 2010 to the latest from Heathen, Dream Evil, Overkill, Dark Tranq, Armored Saint, Airbourne and Exodus...so far...

Well, I've bored you enough. Thx to all who read the whole thing. No pics for now - I'll see what I can dig up... See you on the boards...:kickass:

Nice, I think we all like some balance. I won't mind a significant other who's not into metal as long as she let me be :D, congrats on the kid.

Weird, you're like my twin brother o_O :saint:

Welcome to the forum and please keep on posting.

Welcome Greg!! I know how you feel, bro. I've been with a great girl for more than a year and she doesn't like metal but I can still get a few Hard Rock tunes in there jejeje. It's a blessing to be well accompanied :) Post on!:headbang:

Well, I guess it'd be fun to post on this. And let the world know me.

Ok, the name is Stephanie and I am from Lorain, Ohio. I am Polish, German, and Czechoslovakian. I'm 18 years old. My birthday is August 30th, 1991, so I will be turning 19 this year. 2010 is my graduating class. After graduating high school, I will be attending college (not sure which one yet) to become an Art teacher and on the side become a tattoo artist. Being a tattoo artist was my first choice of career, but my counselor opened my eyes and told me it not be as "stable" as I want it to be. So, I kind of altered my life. I am single at the moment. And all the guys in Ohio suck. We have all the EMO/Scene/Teeny bopper boys. But, I know someone will eventually show up. I guess I am not looking hard enough.

Let's see what else. I used to have gauges (half inch) and I am in the process of getting them back. I have my lip pierced. I'm getting a tattoo this Summer. Just a small one for now. It'll be my first one. But, I have plans for a bigger and more amazing one. It'll be very sentimental and rad. It will be the same as the one my mother has and father has (before he passed away back in 1998). I have one older brother, a fraternal twin sister, and a younger brother. My family and friends are the most important and influential people to me. My favorite color is purple. I have a myspace and facebook. I love reading. Videogames are my thing. Unemployed is what I am, but not what I want to be. My first and last job was a cashier at Toys R Us. I am in the processing of finding a job.

I suck at sports. Food loves me and I love food. I take people for who they are, not how they look. I am not materialistic at all. I'm a bit nerdy and it's awesome. 3 years equal how long I have had braces. And 2 years is how long I have had them off with my retainer. It rules. I smoke the pot, but no cigarettes. And drinking is not my cup of tea either. But, I don't mind the stuff. I don't drive and I cannot wait until I do. My iPod Touch makes up 25% of my life. I'm interested in a lot of music, but metal and it's variety amazes me. Slayer, Darkthrone, and Drudkh are currently my favorite bands.

And yeah, that is like 50% of me. I don't want to bore anyone and I cannot think. But, as soon as I do. I will add to it.

Oh and this is a picture of me:

It's like the only picture I have of me on my computer right now. I cannot wait to take some more though.

Welcome to the board Steph, we are not a bunch of EMO kids, but as a matter of fact we're not as bunch of kids (except for 2-3), so you'll gonna have a lot of surrogate parents in here LOL.

We love to have new blood that carry the old school vibe for another generation, so please feel confortable, read the rules and post like crazy.

P.S. Go to OSU, I wanted to go there but I couldn't made it. They have a wicked Chemistry program :D

Hey, hey hey. Thanks. Well, yes, I can see that none of you are EMO kids and it is great. And once again, you are correct with the kids concept. I have really not seen too many kids on here. I think this is a great forum so far. I will, I will. Do not worry. Actually, OSU has been in my mind. My current Art Teacher and I were talking because that is what I want to do and she went to OSU. But, I probably will have to go to LCCC for a bit. I just hate school. Thanks though.

That's an awful lot of personal information, might want to make up a fake name or something.

Why? If you are takling to me. I mean, I know it is, but it is not like my SSN or something. Just letting people know me. It's really not even that personal. I would say the only things that are really personal are my last name and birthday. I didn't expect it to be like that. But I can see what you are saying, so I will just take it off. Whatever though.

a) Maybe it is a lot of personal info, maybe is TMI, but she did it in good faith and she's an adult, besides we are a sibling type community. If you behave by the rules and stay long enough you'll see what I'm talking about

b) If you're a newbie and your first post is to blast another newbie which haven't done anything bad, then you started HERE on the wrong foot. You could have taken this on a PM level.
