Thrash

Sepultura - Beneath the Remains
RIFFS! Fucking RIFFS! This is just full of energy and emotion. Sold.

Not only RIFFS! but also rhythm changes galore from all out thrashfest to mid-paced tribal stuff. Add in 3 tonnes of atmosphere and you're set.

Also the cover art matches the music perfectly, as if the sounds you hear are emanating from the cavern within the skull, right next to the little stonehenge. :loco:

There was a thread on this, but I re-bought Killing is my Business, Peace Sells, and So Far So Good So What and all are SUPERB remasters, particularly Killing and SFSGSW. All the lyrics, liner notes, history around making the album, etc.

I never bothered with RiP remaster because you can't improve on perfection IMO.

Couldn't find the thread, so I figured here was the next best place to ask. Just picked a pre-remaster copy of RiP a few days ago and I agree, there's no reason to remaster it.

not sure how many of you care ... but EXODUS just released a new disc that is somewhat different than their previous work ... as it is darker, longer tunes and ridiculously pummeling.
It's hard to take in on one listed as the disc is just relentless.

Here's a track where you can also hear a bit of the Lee Altus (HEATHEN) input in songwriting.

you should care about that track above ... trust me on this one ...

and all you Megadeth freaks as well ... Lee Altus makes this one a classic

this is great news :kickass: ... one of the best German bands from the time

Displeased Records will reissue remastered versions of the first two DEATHROW albums — "Satan's Gift" (a.k.a. "Riders of Doom") from 1986 and "Raging Steel" from 1987 — on March 28. "Satan's Gift" includes the first SAMHAIN (pre-DEATHROW) demo as a bonus and "Raging Steel" contains the second SAMHAIN demo. These albums were originally released only on vinyl and cassette by Noise Records and have never been officially released on CD before.

Originally known as SAMHAIN, DEATHROW was a semi-legendary thrash metal band from Germany. The group's first two albums featured "furious thrash with some nice melody to it," whereas the band's third release, "Deception Ignored" (1998), introduced a "more varied and technical" sound. DEATHROW's fourth album, "Life Beyond" (1992), took a few musical steps back and was only released in Germany where it received little attention. The band split up a short time later.

I won't bother mentioning albums not listed by bands listed, but you've missed a few. Anways, here we go:

OVERKILL - Taking Over (Personal favourite) and Feel the Fire (Most heavy metal oriented album, second favourite)

Absolutely essential in a way few other bands I will list are, one of the best live bands I have ever seen. The CD version of Wrecking Everything Live would be another good palce to start since it has most mega hits. The DVD has even more, but also more filler so for a first try go for the compressed version. DD and Blitz will fuckin krieg you away and walk all over you, prepare to be E! Liminated! Deny the fucking cross.

Testament - The Legacy
Brim fucken smashed with mega hits as well, goes in the same folder as Kill 'em All, Bonded by Blood and Show No Mercy plus it holds one of the best vocal performances thrash-wise in my opinion since it's so varied, well-sung and well-fitting. Testament were never as good again, but they have more good albums.

Deströyer 666 - Terror Abraxas, Unchain the Wolves
Not quite thrash, but also not quite black- or death metal but you should love it.

OK gotta go now but more on this later, thrash in hell HUAH!

Also ask again when you're looking for more underground and less essential, still lots of gems to be found.

:kickass::kickass: for both the recommendations and the last sentence!

give me some recos other than the big four 4 and seps.

i saw bonded by blood used the other day, but passed on it.

thanks. yeah, just the basics, not some cult band who only releases 100 vinyls of each release.

You'll want those in a few months, but in general the classics are better anyway so no need to go for the obscure stuff until you've gotten a fair share of the bigger ones down.
more tips+sounds later, possessed and death's first albums should go well with your current death metal kick as they're in the borderlands

J give holy terror a try. I'm not that into the genre but that band rules :worship:

Both the albums have been released together recently.

Whenever I drift away from phases of thrash listening, it only ever takes one good album to remind me why I love it.

The drum change at the start of From the Past Comes the Storms for example - FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YES! The same reaction would accompany the whole Bonded By Blood album.

So Brandon are you still digging Destruction? Silly question really, those early releases are priceless gems.

Also, whilst it goes without saying (although I personally prefer the previous two), it should never be forgotten that Reign in Blood RULES. So much.

I'm going to have to listen to Schizophrenia while driving now; looking forward to it.
