Opeth are certainly not really 'mainstream', and that comment is just an oversight on one individuals behalf.

I must admit however, that Slipknot were my guilty pleasure from time to time, if I can borrow YaYo's phrase. I kind of appreciated the complete 'fuck off' attitude these boys manage to get away with in the name of selling records. And they don't seem to give a shit about technical mastery or musical originality, its kind of just...well...aggression really. Maybe they appeal to the juvenile delinquent in me.

However, I'm quite sure none of Opeths music to date would appear on the mainstream top 40.

I agree with phon1c. Very well writeen without flaming bands like Opeth. Although he did flame grindcore bands and most black metal bands. He's defending a band he likes, so what? Sounds like a guy that overall has an open-mind towards many styles of music, including technical metal. We need more people like that. Slipknow does suck though.
