I decided I couldn't vote "lack of skill" after realizing that I like the stuff on Bathory's 1983 demo... The playing on that is so bad it actually makes me cringe, but I still find some of those songs damn catchy.

I picked "copying another band" because I like bands cause of the uniqueness they bring to the table. If they sound like another band, no madder how skilllful they are trying to be this "other band", they still won't sound origional and origionality is important, just look at how origional bands like Destroyer 666 and Negura Bunget are. They just plain rock. But if another band tries to sound like them, well they sound as good?

I listen to plenty of bands that can't play for shit. its the thought that counts. being a bad musician doesn't necessarily mean the music's gonna suck. look at all the punk/hardcore bands out there.

Uh... thanks for your... approval. It bothers me that you'd want to close down an interesting discussion just because a few dipshits here and there don't have anything productive to say. Isn't it better to target the trolls and flamers themselves rather than a controversial thread they post at? What interesting/debateable topics aren't controversial anyway?

I just don't see the logic in avoiding controversial discussions just because immature people join them.

I don't have much of a problem with this, because if I like one band with a certain sound, and another band emulates that sound, to me that's like having twice as much of a good thing. Granted, the second band isn't as respectable as the first, but I don't think someone who copies someone else's sound is automatically going to sound worse than the original.

I hate it when bands use so much distortion where it becomes a massive chuga chuga chugfest (nu metal, most grindcore, lots of brutal DM bands)

edit: grinder stop getting personally insulted when people state their musical preferences. I don't have a problem with grindcore/gore grind etc... but it has NOTHING that I look for in music (structure, musicianship, melody, clever and intelligent songwriting, excellent vocals, etc....) so I don't listen to it

The "I see" part of your post made me think it was a joke. I don't really know how to describe it. It was funny to me that you're so concerned with bands who "sell-out" that you actually seem bothered by other people not caring as much. Yeah, bands "sell-out", but that would just make me dislike the new material. Metallica sold out, but I still like old Metallica.
