You don't need to be an arsehole to insult a kiwi.

...and thats the best you could do? Geez, how pathetic...no matter how many good Aussies i do and have known, you can always count on that one jackass to make the country look like a bunch of sheep-shaggin' redneck morons....

Here's a way to end this bullshit.

I like slayer. Slayer is one of the biggest mainstream metal bands out there. Does it make slayer any less of a band that I love them alongside wannabe metalheads that think Good Charlotte is punk?
Nope.
Slayer makes music videos which have to be the biggest marketing tool ever.
I've never really seen one unless you count their live performance of War Ensemble.

Slayer is mainstream, but they haven't sold out.

same concept with Opeth.

I tend to disagree. The pile of horseshit that was "Diabolus in Musica" was not of Slayer quality material. Similarly, the false agression and angsty lyrics of GHUA was proof of their compromising their unique style to ship a few more records.

it depends what mood i'm in, but i like all their records. like most fans, i favor show no mercy thru seasons generally. i fear the next album will be very similar to GHUA. although, with lombardo on the kit again, it may make it a bit more exciting.

D1, have you heard of Absu? They're the most insane black/thrash metal band around, I rekon they sound like Slayer on speed. Check out the album "Tara".

Anyway, what I'm getting at is, apparently, before Lombardo rejoined, Postscriptor, the drummer of Absu, who is one of the fastest/tighest/most energetic and creative drummers on the planet, was auditioning to join Slayer after Bostaph left. Slayer with Postscriptor on drums would have basicaly created a godlike album. It's a shame he didnt get the job.

Just to proove that there's no bad blood, here's a joke to make everyone happy.

Sitting together on a train, travelling through the Swiss Alps, were a Kiwi, an an Australian, a little old Greek lady, and a young blonde Swiss girl.

The train goes into a dark tunnel and a few seconds later there is the sound of a loud slap. When the train emerges from the tunnel, the Kiwi has a bright red hand print on his cheek.

No one speaks.

The old lady thinks: That Kiwi must have groped the blonde in the dark, and she slapped his cheek.

The blonde thinks: That Kiwi must have tried to grope me in the dark, but missed and fondled the old lady. She slapped his cheek.

The Kiwi thinks: That Australian must have groped the blonde in the dark. She tried to slap him but missed and got me instead.

The Australian thinks: I can't wait for another tunnel, so I can smack that Kiwi again

old?

whoever asked about picking up "The Mantle," definitely do. It's quite an amazing album. you wont regret it... as for me, ive lost my copy at the moment and im really bummed about that one. i think i left it at home (im in college now) so ill have to pick it up when i go back.

i think this is the stupidest discussion ever. and i usually refrain from saying negative things.
anyway, i really do want to re-recommend the mantle after mr. scourge. the guy who got me into opeth has been listening to it at my urging and he likes it. it's rather slow and dark and subtly haunting.
not great for fast driving, but good for slow, night time listening.

I like dark and haunting so it should suit me. I'll be checking it out.

Also, to add to the hijack :D, I was thinking of picking up one of Katatonia's albums. Either, Last Fair Deal Gone Down or Viva Emptiness. Hmmm, which one, which one....

I'm not much of a Katatonia fan but Viva Emptiness > LFDGD

While we're on recommendations... check out the new Woods of Ypres album... available from The End Records... you won't be disapointed.

I have to agree that I liked it better when I was the only one listening to them, but I don't like them any less because they are more popular.

I say good for them, they are a bunch of very talented musicians who deserve to have their music heard, AND to make a living off of it.

What I want to know is; why everyone thinks a band "sold out" just because they become popular...? If their music started to sound like everything I hear on the radio, (which BTW, all sounds the same to me), then I will call them "sell outs".
