Well, I find them to be quite mind-expanding, to say the least.

One problem is that they haven't put out great material since 2001. It's easy for people who haven't heard anything but Deliverance or Ghost Reveries to say Opeth sucks. People should listen to Morningrise, My Arms Your Hearse, and Blackwater Park before passing judgment on Opeth.

It's funny, because everyone complains about newer Opeth fans who are unfamiliar with anything they recorded before the turn of the century. But that's really a two-sided dagger, since on the flipside I know relatively new metal fans who quickly blew them off after a few spins of recent material, only to discover they sounded a bit different in years past.
