The "I don't understand why people DON'T like this band" thread

Haha, that's funny 'cause I distinctly remember seeing live footage from them where that turd Shagrath scream to the crowd: 'Are you ready for some true Norwegian black metal', before proceeding to play some shitty song.

When I saw them he said "Are you ready for some more Norweigan black metal".

The fact that they are bad? That's an opinion. Shagrath isn't any worse than 99.9% of typical black metal vocalists out there. And keyboards play a prominent role in their sound anyways, that's a characteristic they've always had...It's a matter of taste if you think it's too much.
 Obviously I don't think it's a fact like 1+1=2. I was using a figure of speech. EVERYTHING on this forum is opinion so I shouldn't have to qualify myself.

Also, "Jewish" filth? :erk:

Seriously, Ars Diavoli, why don't you just run along and take some more pictures of yourself, eh, pretty boy?

The reason Dimmu Borgir gets shit, is because they keep releasing uninspired, plastic, commercial heavy metal dressed as some sort of disgusting hybrid of goth- and black metal, then proceed to claim that it is 'True Norwegian Black Metal', even though it has so extremely blatantly gone against everything the scene originators stood for. It's jewish filth, and only idiots and scene whores buy into it. Where do you fit in?

Dimmu stopped calling themselves black metal years ago, they don't place genre limits on their sound which would explain why their direction has changed, they are doing what they want to do. Why should any band give into any genre restrictions, it's music. Music is art and should have no boundaries. And everything the scene originally stood for? Face it, more trendy than anything are bands who feel a need to fulfill this. I'm not going to deny a large number of their fans of scene whores and idiots but how does affect the band themselves. It doesn't impact them. I am a fan of music that I like, I listen to a variety of genres and black metal is a particular favourite. I can just as easily listen to Dimmu Borgir as a band like Sombre Chemin.

Yes... Norweigans seem to use the word Jew as an insult so I've seen.

You know... Created with the sole intent of making money? It's not a hard metaphor to understand...

Yes because Dimmu Borgir's sole purpose is making money through a style of music that isn't even remotely popular. Oh, but then again I forgot they are a pop-metal band aren't they?

Yes obviously, but what is your point in your initial comment then? I could just as easily say, the vast majority of black metal bands have generic, re-hashed and unoriginal riffs, standard and predictable vocals, and a corpse-paint image-driven appeal along with a trendy "true black metal" existence and message. Does that mean that all of those bands are bad?

Precisely.

i think the whole idea of saying a band is "true" is dumb, i also dont really like refering to a genre by using a country like "norwegian" black metal. anyways i was watchin one of thier (dimmu borgir) dvds my friend that really likes them brought over and remember seeing the singer in the recording studio do the devil horns and growl "black metal!!!" into the mic and it reminded me of something someone typed in the acdc thread about little girls wearing acdc shirts talking about how they loved to rock out. i like quite a few of thier songs but as a band i think that they are starting to become like cradle of filth and be jus some gothic band that fags think are black metal.

Haha, that wasn't hard to refute:

So are you going to continue this ´special saga´ by naming your next album using only three effective words for it again or what?

Yes, most likely so... (*laughs*) I mean, Black Metal or Metal music in general has much to do with some certain traditions, y´know. Traditions are overall kind of hard to break, so we are gonna stick with this, naming our albums with three words only.

Or this one:

The ‘new’ Dimmu sounds like Cradle of Filth though I guess that can’t be helped having Nick Barker (ex Cradle drummer) in the band.

Silenoz: True, our sound has evolved and become more modern but we still have a lot of true black metal and Scandinavian roots in the music.

Fuck, this is SICKENING! :erk:

Why should any band give into any genre restrictions, it's music. Music is art and should have no boundaries.

That doesn't justify pretending to be something you're not. That's called being a POSEUR!

And everything the scene originally stood for? Face it, more trendy than anything are bands who feel a need to fulfill this.

That's right, True Norwegian Black Metal has been dead for a decade. Everyone who remains are either scene whores, clones or just straight-out frauds. Dimmu are trying to cash out on past controversy by wrapping it in a consumer friendly package and all us who held some sort of heartfelt devotion to the original movement, this is just a huge insult.

Awwwwww.... poor wittle Dimmu Borgir hurt your feelings...

Crimson Velvet,

Explain how naming an album with three words actually relates to black metal. "Black metal or music in general." Traditions are everywhere and if anything, it is the band's tradition and choice to do so.

The new album or any of their's sounds absolutely nothing like Cradle of Filth. And Nick's style of drumming is different comparing Dimmu to Cradle. And they still have roots in black metal, they've been linked to the black metal scene for about 15 years, that's longer that most bands still around or going. What's your point? You said it yourself, most black metal bands today are clones and Dimmu has never been a clone. Being "true" to oneself is more important than being "true" to a scene.

The notion that Dimmu is a poseur band are just asinine assumptions and complete ignorance on the part of people who dislike the band and feel a need to discredit them.

The majority of black metal bands feel that their music is true-er than that of many other bands who make up the scene because their judging perspective is different. If every band says this, than how can this be true.
