I bought this up to someone the other day. They said that Chuck Schuldiner AS A PERSON was very well respected. He never really did shit to anyone in the scene & he wasn't a drug addict like a lot of guys.
Death AS A BAND are not everyone's thing though.
Actually he had problems with a lot of people and a lot of people in the business didn't like him.
Wow, I never heard that before Nec. I guess there's always going to be people that don't like other people for odd reasons though.
actually i think powerslave is the most consistent album
I recently read an interview with Richard Cristy (drummer for the amazing Sound of Perseverance) and he said those rumors were all b.s.Actually he had problems with a lot of people and a lot of people in the business didn't like him.

Then went on to say Chuck was a stand up guy who was a pleasure to work with. To be honest, I don't know who to believe because I've heard mixed feelings on Chuck as a person as well.
Well, the reality of it was swept under the rug pretty well once he died (not that that's a bad thing. I mean, his passing was a pretty sad story). But a number of people in the death metal scene didn't speak too highly of him. One of them actually stated that fairly recently actually, was it Martin van Drunen maybe? Anyway, there were stories floating around about him being rather difficult at times, like wanting to be by himself backstage or on the tour bus for long periods of time. That's just what I can recall off the top of my head though. Not that he was public enemy number 1 by any means, but his respect certainly was not universal.
I would not say that DiAnno was a better vocalist than Dickenson, but I will say this:
DiAnno era Maiden > Bruce era Maiden.
everyone's saying Maiden. I didn't like Maiden until a few months ago.
Yeah but did you hate/disrespect them or anything before then?
I'll have to agree with Maiden, Death and Black Sabbath.. I'd have to disagree with Mercyful Fate because they get a lot of crap about King Diamonds voice.
However for every band there's always going to be at least a small group of people who are going to hate on them.
hate's a strong word. more like dislike. I used to be a punk, who crossed over into metal. Iron Maiden and bands like that were viewed as borgeious wankery.
I don't know about Hellhammer, but I've never heard anyone shit talk Neurosis.
