The "What Are You Doing This Moment" Thread

toilet paper situation is actually fine here now, most places seem p well stocked and ive got a couple of 24 packs that should last a while despite my dubious metabolism

still struggling to find stuff like pasta or rice though

also someone at my work who was chatting with us in close proximity yesterday is now self isolating because his sister may have the virus, good stuff

Southern heat is coming in strong here in Georgia/Tennessee, and its barely the tip of the heat wave dick. Expecting the Summer time to be absolutely abysmal.

We expected that here last summer, but summer came early and many parts in the north were experiencing summer like temps 3 months prior to summer. Then came the bushfires which started 2 months before summer. But Summer was not as hot and dry as they predicted. We still had hot days but not as many as usual and in many parts of the south they had unprecedented rain which came down from the tropics. The entire weather system is balls up these days.

The weather shifts here have been fucking crazy as hell. Its been a typical consistency as of this week.

How humid is it out there in AUS? I'm guessing that dry air increases the chances of bushfires.

Its consistently humid down here in the Southeastern US.

The weather has been shifting for years. I remember 20 years ago some scientist suggested we needed to move the seasons as we know them to suit the weather.

Different parts of the country suffer vastly different humidity. Some areas are a very dry heat, some can be very humid. We had several days this summer where the humidity was so bad the tiles on the floor of the kitchen felt like they were sweating, but the temps weren't super high (95-100). Up north towards the tropics it's often humid and sticky, whereas over in CiGland it's more often a dry heat.

Bushfires are non discriminatory, they can burn happily in all weather. Dry conditions often create ideal places for lightning strikes to start fires, but incompetence and stupid can start them anywhere. Most of the large bushfires here create their own weather patterns so they really aren't fussy.

Its the same down here
We barely hit cold temps. I think the coldest we got was like a 7-10°F? (Dunno the celsius conversion of that.)

And that makes sense; I forget that humans can also be a source of wildfires; I should know better than to think otherwise:p

10F is -12C
If it got that fucking cold here I'd have moved to the tropics long ago.

Humans can be the source for different reasons. The claim that we had over 200 arsonists convicted of lighting the recent fires was horseshit spread by the BBC in England, at the time they reported it the number was actually 4. Just a small difference, but lets not get the truth in the way of a good headline. But humans cause fires for other reasons too. We've had workers with grinders start fires, we've had remnants of camp fires start bushfires, even the fact that governments wont do back burning or clearing has started fires. Damn we've even had countless bushfires that have caused loss of property started by the government workers actually doing controlled burns for clearing.

Not all fires started by humans are arson but unfortunately we do usually have quite a few every year that are. I think the figures are something like 2000 fires a year started by arsonists but most are caught before they become serious.

Human error can be dangerous, and often unstoppable if not properly managed. And even then, nature decides those cards. It happens, even by misfortune.

And yeah, it got a tiny bit cold. It got colder when I lived in Illinois. There were days where it hit -20° C.

I'm not a fan of winter. I much prefer autumn or early spring.

Mother Nature is a cruel bitch some days :)

Fuck if I wanted minus temps I'd live on a mountain. I can drive less than two hours from here and be amongst our best snow fields but fuck that for a joke, snow is for eskimos. We have a few mornings a year here where the temps drop under zero till about 8am, but it's not a regular thing and we don't get snow, black ice and sleet but not snow.

Strange thing is for the most part I don't feel the cold. If it's raining and blowing a gale I feel it a bit more, but until I see frost I don't really feel it. Back when I was delivering bread from 10pm -10am I still wore shorts every day of the year, never gave a shit that I drove into -5 temps.

The wind is what really picks that shit up. I hate it. I hate that I'm fair skinned too cuz that shit annoys me.

I used to like snow until I wrecked my first car in it, but thats because I'm not used to snow. (Actually it was via Black Ice, but snow was also partially involved.)

Fuck the snow, man. Nature is a cruel bitch indeed.

Yeah I hate the wind too, especially at home. Most of our really strong winds come from the west and our house faces west and is on a hill so the wind slams the crap out of this place. The garage door bangs constantly, the windows rattle, the roof creaks, it's just fucking annoying. Next house I build will be in a hole :)

Nah, it's like everything, you build up an immunity to things if you have them often enough. 12 curries a day and you too could train your immune system.

Fuck minus degree weather. I worked many 2 to 3 degree early mornings last winter and yeah, that was enough for me.
I dont mind winter, but there was one brutal winter we had a year or two back where there was a couple nights of -35 C° and that was rough to be outside in. Naturally, I was out walking cause I'm a savage.
