I bought a new car (the "I wanna be like Gugs" thread)...

hmmm ... I would have to respectfully disagree ... was just at the dealer this very week and made it a point to look for these very things on the window stickers.

you trust dealer stickers? although one thing i overlooked is the issue of RHD to LHD cars which could cause this. What i said above is to RHD cars it could be different to LHD models. As i do know South Africa only makes RHD cars i think.. who knows, like i said in this day and age unless its from China Quality isn't a huge issue.

500 hp with S/C.

What other car has 300 hp, 300 lb/ft, seats 4 comfortably and costs $26,000?

so was at the VW dealer again last night helping my friend pick up his Jetta GLI (which drives like a bat out of hell btw) and looked at all the window stickers on the showroom floor to see where each car was manufactured.

Jetta and Beetle ... Mexico Final Assembly
Rabbit, GTi, R32, Passat ... Germany
Toureg .... Slovakia

Yep, Ford obvsiously haven't improved much.

In an effort to silence your VW worship for awhile here's some data to back up my claim:

the fastest VW's I could find were
R32 $32000 0-60: 5.9s
Passat R36 $40000 0-60: 4.8s

compare to

Mustang GT (base) $26000 0-60: 5.1s
Shelby GT500 $41000 0-60: 4.5s

There's a $6000 disparity in price between the GT and the R32 and the GT is already faster. $6000 could buy an entire suspension package that could pull 1.0g. It's common knowledge.

Interesting to note is the Mazdaspeed3 which at $24500 has a 0-60 of 5.8s.

With VWs, it seems, you are paying for quality interior pieces and tariffs, if you live in the US.

Here in America, VWs are something of a hipster-mobile. They're what you drive to the coffee shop. You are required to maintain a white Apple sticker on the rear window at all times and bumper stickers proudly displaying the local liberal radio stations are encouraged. VWs have absolutely no performance heritage here, except for maybe the original GTi.

Oh, you also have to display your alma mater on the rear window as well, although it is desireable to have attended a liberal arts school.

Nobody fucking cares what college tuition your parents bank rolled ye cunts. Nor do I care if your son or daughter is student of the month. Nor do I care that you care to make an ass out of yourself by posting a stick figure decal of your entire illegal immigrant family. Fuck your dog, fuck your wife, fuck your daiughter, and fuck Dalton. Who's Dalton you ask?!!? I don't know, because I DON'T GIVE A FUCK!

Here they are merely considered quality sieg heil-cars, as all sieg heil things are and the wagon (?) models, passat in particular, are common family cars. And mine has a stereo that's really cool by hell mike car stereo standards, when I pömp Chalice of Blood I go deaf and the doors shake from all the heavy double bass metal action

0-60 times arn't everything you do realise. VW have never gone out and made an "american" car in the sense of lots of power and no substance. They still work under the "people car" ideals they were founded under and even though they may be slower on a 0-60 chart they are a much better car.

those arn't the quickest vw's

W12 coupe - 0 - 60 mph 3.5 seconds
W12 Golf - 0-60mph 3.7 seconds
both capable of over 200MPH

You are wrong in that they have no performance heritage
VW were making all wheel drive supercharged Golfs in the 80's that would maul mustangs, see below, the Golf Rallye amongst others like twin engined Jetta's a mid engined pikes peak mk2 golf etc. Mind you none of these came to the US let alone australia.

no performance in a vw?
http://adac.24h-rennen.de/en/database/result-database.html
look what came 8th in the latest nurburgring 24hr race.

Dude, like I said, they don't have performance cachet here in the US. Their ads cater to metrosexuals (not there's anything wrong with that).

I've never heard of those W12 whatevers but I wasn't talking about $150,000 cars here. If that's the case, then I give you the Ford GT or a Saleen S1, the fastest car in the universe (except for that Bugatti Veyron thing).

LOL @ you guys falling for the "people's car" line of crap. VWs are NOTORIOUSLY unreliable. The Toureg was one of the all-time most troublesome vehicles ever made. The rest of their cars are plagued by electrical issues and are designed such that you have to take it to the dealer to even change the fucking headlamp.

 LOL at you believing that rubbish, what car these days don't you have to take to a dealer to do anything?

No they are not unreliable, VW's have a stigma attached to them because someone they knew had an old beat up Beetle that wasn't looked after and broke down a lot. All brands have issues with there cars, when in comes down to complete underlying quality NOTHING can touch europe.

the US has horsepower but the most crap fit and finish in and out even on top models (not to mention horrendous interiors) ... Europe nice finishes and build quality but quirky cars that usually have a lot of gremlins ... the Japs reliability but mostly souless cars
