Mentality of a beginning metalhead.

Seriously? Ever been to a jazz concert? Every solo is improvised. I've taken multiple jazz improv classes on guitar. etc....

Quite a few. It may be 'improvised' but it's still much more rule bound than free improvisation.

Most of the metal I listen to is written by musicians. I like it technical and progressive.

Obviously you can go and define 'musician' as anyone that makes music but, that aside, most metal isn't technical or progressive metal.

When people say EDM it immediately makes me think they're a poser.

I'm never sure what people mean by it, and half the time they can't seem to explain themselves. It's like saying you like 'metal'. Some people like all the genres that it encompasses but most don't. I think most people that say they like EDM are basically saying they like whatever electronic music is currently popular, regardless of whether those artists/bands actually sound anything alike.

You're reading way too much into what was obviously my opinion. I'm not stating that most metal is technical or progressive here, I'm stating that I like technical and progressive metal better than other genres of music except classical and jazz. And "free improvisation" is not better than jazz (OPINION TAG)

Honestly I used to be really into the whole technical metal thing (was never big into prog metal) but I've come to realize that imo, the simpler, more straightforward and visceral metal gets, the better it is. There are exceptions, but for me this is the general rule.

Depending on what kind of dubstep you're listening to. The stuff with the ultra-distorted, completely atonal bass wobbles, yes, but the decent stuff, the stuff that is actually semi-melodic even after the drops, could be described as pretty "metallic".
I meant that it's basically a fad subgenre that is like so five years ago, not a musical comparison. It's all about the neurofunk and electro swing these days man.

Nah they shouldn't be fucking calling it that. The Internet is something I personally despise because it literally sucks the fucking soul out of everything it touches.
That is of course unless you have a heap of rock and unlimited broadband

I think if there was no internet there'd be no Omni, hambutgerboty and a lot of others that really wouldn't even know about the existence of this genre otherwise.

Dance music already is electronic, it's a stupid American term that posers use. People that have been into to dance music for ten minutes.
I had no idea. I feel so ashamed. Naturally I'll kill myself immediately.

When you do that I want to reach through the Internet and kill you with fire.
