yes, in fact...im so wrapped up in it and my elitism therein...that ive continued a 3455678 page long thread giving everyone any positve, relative information on the genre they ask for or are curious about....what a selfish egotistical bastard i am...shame on me.


i threw in the stupid comment right off the bat, because you implied that opeth deserves to lose your respect because they decide to take a once in a lifetime opportunity tour that most bands would kill to be on, for maximum exposure and success in the future. not that opeth would lose ANY SLEEP from YOU losing respect for them...dont flatter yourself, or think that their self esteem is in your hands...i guarantee its far from that. nobody is going to listen to a band they dont like just because they toured with slipknot. many slipknot fans may not be terribly bright, but i dont think anyone listens to music they dont like...at least not completely. your view is very warped and childish.

good for them for taking any course to improve their careers, music, fanbase and income....and fuck YOU for having a problem with it...get over yourself...seriously.

I don't think this band is "mine, mine, mine" as you put it, but I think Opeth is on another level...one above Ozzfest. If you feel content to lump Opeth in with Disturbed or whoever the fuck is playing Ozzfest this year, go ahead. But I want to see my favorite band retain some artistic integrity and not hop on the MTV-mobile.

I just thought I'd clear a few things up about Ozzfest, as I, too, am a SMN user. I know alot of you fans on this board stereotype Ozzfest as this big nu-metal fest, and I won't deny that in past years it had some of the shittiest bands to walk the earth touring on it. I would like to make it clear, however, that as the nu-metal trend is dying, so has Ozzfest gotten better. Last year the Main Stage lineup was:
Black Sabbath
Judas Priest
Slayer
Dimmu Borgir
Superjoint Ritual
Black Label Society

None of those bands are nu-metal bands. The headlining second stage acts (I'm not gonna go into the rotating ones) were:
Slipknot
Hatebreed
Lamb of God

Only one out of those three is a nu-metal band. There were only two other nu-metal bands in the rotating spot that year (Otep and Magna-Fi) the rest were mostly hardcore or metalcore (which alot of you probably hate, but still, it's not nu-metal).

This year, there are rumors circulating that Iron Maiden and Anthrax may be on Main Stage. Again, these are veteran metal bands.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, I'm just trying to make the point that Ozzfest isn't as shitty as it used to be.

I don't care if Opeth get more popular. Yeah I'd hate to see trendy kids buy their album, listen to about 4 minutes of it and throw it away not being able to listen to the long songs. If Opeth get on Ozzfest, that's alright as long as they're on the Main Stage and have an hour or more time slot. That won't happen though. I just don't want Opeth to waste their summer tour on Ozzfest when I could be seeing them for about 2 hours in a smaller venue.

Sorry for the double post, but to everyone else that's telling me about all the other good bands that have played Ozzfest - yes, I know, that's fabulous. I really wouldn't care if Jimi Hendrix crawled out of his grave and played Ozzfest - but apparently I haven't made it clear why Ozzfest sucks the greasy black cock. Let me make a very brief list.

- It's a "pay to play" festival.
- Good bands that have underground credibility and have struggled to pay the fee are lumped in with bands that are only on the tour because they had a hit single on MTV and their massive label can easily put up the fee.
- Opeth during the day playing a 40 minute set to a sweaty crowd of kids with wallet chains vs. Opeth playing a 2 hour set in a small club. Hmmm...tough decision.

Fuck Ozzfest. It's a corporate money machine, and that's it. I don't want to give my money to them.
