Ugh, despite the light of the recent discussion here, I'll add in my 2 cents...
I personally don't see the Ozzfest crowd as Opeth's scene, but that's fine, it's not my decision. I've seen many of my favourite bands go down this road and eventually compromise their music simply for the chance of appearing on one of these major festivals/tours. I certainly hope it doesn't get to that point with Opeth, as enough idiots have already been brought in post-BWP and I'm thinking post-Ozzfest that the entire fanbase will be revamped with total nimrods. I've even seen the decline on here over time... over a measly 2 and a half years.
But once again, I hope despite what sort of popular status Opeth attain that they're respected for their musicianship and not for the fact that the music media tell people to.
It's a sort of new era for alot of the music I like, so I've come to terms with it. Meshuggah, In Flames, Soilwork etc. have all declined in order to fit the scene and with the poorer quality of Opeth's more recent albums I can see a nice path being forged to play festivals like Ozzfest. That's fine though, it's their choice.
