The stupidity in nu-metal

Has anybody noticed how nu-metal bands mindlessly throw words into their songs? More often then not, some nu-metal idiot will shout "fuck" for no reason in the middle of a song. I take no offense to profanity, and I actually take pride in being quite a pottymouth myself. As for what annoys me in this, is that it is thrown in there for no reason. The vocalist might as well be shouting "toyota" or "lawn chair" because the yelling of "fuck" has no relevance to the song whatsoever. The word "fuck," and other forms of the word, however, have been used tastefully in songs before. For instance, in Emperor's "The Loss and Curse of Reverence," the closing line is "you and this world ripped my fucking heart out again and again and again...." This is one of the many reasons why true metal fans will always have more class than nu-metal fans.

It's cos their 14 year old fans like lots a swear words to piss off their parents.

Lyrics which actually make sense and mean somethig are of minor consideration.

It's up to us to see to it that these young nu-metal fans see the light (or should that be dark ) And move onto real music before they follow the next mindless trend.

why should we even waste our time with that? If someone is interested I will show them the ropes, but if not, then I won't even waste my time. There is no duty involved....

Because the bands deserve all the support we can give them, and the more fans they have the more money they will make so they can concentrate on music more, and will be able to tour more so I can go and see them.

Being part of the underground is all very well, and I don't wanna have to go to the NEC to see the bands I like, but without some support there won't be as much good music for me to listen to.

This is very true about the bands needing out support. If they aren't making enough money from the band to concentrate on the music, touring will probably not happen. If we want our favorite bands to continue tour (even though some of my favorite bands will never play a live show again) and put out albums, they need all the support they can get.

I totally agree with you about the use of "fuck", as also about the ultralow quality of most of the nu-bands (I personally think Slipknot however is the musically angriest band existing, no matter if they fake it or not. Nu-metal is all about making teens and pre-teens feel nobody understands them and the cursing is there to make it obscene, so that they feel it's something which is their own, because it's always been hard to market obnoxiousness.
Nu-metal makes me want to throw up. I can handle a fair bit of obscenity in lyrics, but it's as stated before, the pointless cursing which gets to me (aside from the extremely poor quality music).

They shame the metal-scene with the stupidity and lack of any form of sophistication (or civilisation might be more like it).

How very Satanic of you. How does enlightening the masses benefit you in any way, right?

I say nu-metal exists to give us something to mock and something for the lower age spectrum of the "herd" something to piss their parents off with while Addidas, Nike, and FUBU still collect their dollars. It's a minor example of the society of the masses. It won't be around long, don't worry, but will be replaced with something equally mindless. It's all irrelivant. It helps to remember that.

The day Slipknot has anything to do with thrash is the day i see Metallica releasing a good album again
And Kerry King is the Lars Ulrich of Slayer, so it doesnt suprise me that he likes Slipknot.

Y'know, I find it funny how you mention all the fuck lyrics and their irrelevance etc. Now, I agree with you to a certain extent...of course there are some bands that throw in swears for no reason....the biggest culprit being Staind. (slow, heavy melancholic rock....with the odd very tasteless swear thrown in here and there for no benefit whatsoever).

But hey, didn't ever occur to you that they're actually there for a reason? The arrangement of swearing might seem pointless to you, but as said before, the swears are there to serve and complete the purpose of a rebellious, angsty (however faux) feel. Swearing in nu-metal is an essential ingredient; it's part of what it's about.

Given the extent to which you speak-out about the overuse of lyrics.....I find it curious as to why you don't mention, ummmm, gore metal, pornogrind, deathgrind, or brutal death lyrics???? You think 'mindlessly throw'ing lyrics into music is unique to nu-metal, and a basis for getting on your pedestal?? Do you see any particular parallels in the meaningless overabuse of lyrical cliche when you compare standard nu-metal to standard extreme metal? Hmmm, I sure as hell do!!! Sounds like ignorant, snobby hypocrisy to me!!

You make a valid point and for anyone who listens to Myrkskog they're as death/black metal as it gets great band as well..but lyrically probably one of the worst at it...lots of irrelevant cursing.
