Been sending out mad job apps on monster.com.

Anyone ever get the feeling that because the postings on that site are so accessible your odds of actually getting any of the jobs are virtually zero?

You're better off researching companies online and applying directly at their website than using Monster

Yeah, I'll probably start doing that soon. I just figured Monster was a good place to start.

Look at usajobs.gov. That's where I got mine. Government hiring seems more merit-based.

But I'd probably have to get a security clearance.

Looks like I'm going to have to try for one at some point given how many jobs in northern VA / DC are government-oriented. It's almost like it's as important as having a degree.

Security clearance? They do a background check, and they probably drug test, but that shouldn't be a problem, should it?

I'll be working in Social Security, which I guess will deal with some sensitive data. They already took fingerprints and observed that I have no record. I won't have any issues with a drug test, which probably will trip up some people.

I wouldn't have a problem with a drug test, but a full scope / polygraph test I might. That may only be for Top Secret clearance though, I dunno.
