Can't sleep, philosophizing and giving Dexter another shot. There's a scene where Doakes finally gets off his back because he sees him at an Addicts Anonymous meeting - i.e. Dexter is human, flawed, no longer a threat.

I was thinking how revealing vulnerabilities is such a useful tool for disarming people... or is it shared humanity that's disarming? After all, Doakes was sympathetic because their workplace is plenty stressful and plenty of cops had similar issues.

Hard to say. Displaying flaws shows you're not a threat, but displaying empathy, or garnering genuine sympathy, shows you're on the same team. Which do you think is more effective if one wanted to, idk, win friends and influence people?

Getting day drunk as I go back to work tomorrow after a week off. Discovered a termite kick-out hole in our bedroom, a problem for my landlord and Orkin to figure out. Also working on quitting my job, which would move me from Florida back to Massachusetts. Yay.

Putting my two weeks notice in at my job tomorrow. Accepted an offer at a startup. Better title, better pay, stock options. Definitely riskier but I'm going for it anyway.

Probably gonna get suspended for three days at work tomorrow. They’ve taken me away from my repair supervisor spot and stuck me back out on location with a crew of knuckleheads that know nothing about geo-membrane because we’re short handed. It’s left me in a spot of doing all four jobs in a four man crew because they’re just not experienced enough to do it without fucking it up. My crew is supposed to be three handy men, not three LDPE seamers. It’s left me half assing things. Guess it’s ‘bout time to find a new plastics company to work for.

Got hit by a freighter today on my way home. Somehow, by the grace of the fucking gods, my car is perfectly fine. No one got a ticket, just a fucking panic attack and a bad mood.

Today I'm watching over bachelor students during an exam for the first time. If I catch them cheating I'm going to spank them with a leather belt. No I'll tell them that's no way to pass an exam or something and kick them out. It will definitely feel awkward no matter what though. I hope they don't cheat. My belt is ready.

Colleague told me a story yesterday about a dude having to go to the restroom and then returning with a bunch of papers hidden in his clothes that fell and scattered over the floor. Instafail self-own.
