Also, yes Gravediggaz are excellent.
I have no need of metal other than metal
You missed my point. Metal can get away with having lyrics of such a nature because lyrics are irrelevant in metal, whereas in hip-hop they are at the forefront, and constitute the essence of the musical experience. One reason I don't like hip-hop is because I pay no heed to how important the lyrics and vocals are, so all I have left to listen for is the background music to the vocalist, which I find to be unappealing.
Are you serious?I don't care about rap because it has nothing to do with indo-european culture.
There can be some catchy tunes, but the general style seems to be to take a few decent measures and loop them indefinitely, which spoils my appreciation for them. Also, the focus is on the lyrics and vocals, while the music itself seems rather unimportant. Essentially, it's rhythmic shouting by untrained, uneducated vocalists, of lyrics that are often tangential with little to no logical or ideological flow and virtually no artistic or intellectual merit or competence of any sort. What is your stance on hip-hop and rap?
They come off as ignorant and simplistic as their music does. I'm not sure whether a seemingly uneducated and superficial subculture is responsible for the lack of compositional integrity in the music, or if conversely the uninspirational music perpetuates these characteristics within those who listen. In all likelihood, it probably goes both ways. What do you think of the subculture that accompanies it?
Likes bitches 'n' hoes. How do you think women are treated in the hip-hop/rap scene?
Yes. Considering that the vast majority of the metal that I listen to comes from non-English speaking countries, their English is still far superior to that of many rappers and rap fans who speak it as a first or only language. Honestly, I find it a bit appalling that a scene could thrive and even take pride in how inarticulate they are, but maybe it's just a matter of perspective. Considering this, maybe a lot of them don't even realize how in-eloquent they sound from an outsider's perspective.I am most turned off by the slang and incredibly poor language skills. Certainly in metal there are times when a foreign band's English isn't great, but it's no where near the atrocity that I see in a lot of rap/hip-hop groups...especially when English is their first language. Hearing "I is" or "You is" just annoys me.
Are you serious?
Are you serious?
Or he could have just been joking. My previous statement would apply if he were serious.
i'm sort of joking you know parodying those anus people and whatnot. I'm not trying to be racist or ethnocentric but I simply do not understand the culture that rap/hip hop is derived from and I am not interested in it. That's not narrow-minded or bigoted. I am not going to pretend that I have the cultural background to actually get the whole gist of rap/hip hop. I find some of it interesting but that is purely interest from an outsider's perspective. It's not my shit. My shit is metal, classical, ambient, etc. etc. I am not under some moral obligation to appreciate black culture.
First of all I will never accept rap/hip-hop as a music genre, since no musicians or instruments are present. Sampling other peoples music doesn't warrant a music genre.
That said, I can, actually listen to some rappers, mainly ones that sample blues riffs or occasionaly clever lyrics.
I figured you would probably insult me but all I wanted was an explanation. I don't really care much about black culture either. I just thought saying "indo-european culture" was silly and if you weren't joking I would think less of you.Sort of, not really. Why do you care? Should I be multicultural to satisfy your faggot wimp tendencies?
I don't think this is true. People identify with the culture that surrounds them not their supposed roots. I have no cultural connection to Italy despite being able to trace recent descendants there.Identifying with cultural roots is a basic human instinct.
