exactly, those are the proggies i was talking about. emule 0.27c does have a "port" field open to changes, but i have no idea what i should put in. i tried with 80 as a suggested choice, but nothing changes. how can i know what ports i've got open, and if they work with the software?

DC++ is the best file sharing program I've tried, and it seems you can hax0r the port in that too.

you can try to do a port scan while at home against the firewall to see which ports are open. but i think that is not necessary.
if you know that the admin only blocked port 4662, you can easily decrease or increase the number by a few and try again. most of the small ports are reserved (like port 80 is reserved to http), so try something like 4630. try a few times, and if you get no result, then you'll might want to do a port scan from _outside_ your work network to see which ports can be accessed.

@vc: i admit i wouldn't know how to do a port scan, from the inside or the outside. i tried with other ports in the area but they're not accessible. i'm also wondering why the proggy should insist on that port being the one used to receive if any would do...? btw, it gets connected, but keeps a low id which basically means i get nothing out of it. if you could send help (even later, even privately) i'd be happy as bubu, and thanks in advance.

500 megs? I just cut my fserve down from 45 gigs to 30 because I needed more disk space...

heh.. law-abiding... then again, where I live, there are laws prohibiting "Illegal Posession of a Ninja Weapon" and "Conspiracy to Conspire to possess a significant quantity of one or more illegal substances within 1500 feet of an educational institute, park, or playground". HTose don't even make sense.

Today was better as I got more details on what's going on, but there's still a way to go. The day was still... bleh and I have a headache now, but both will go away soon. I feel better and I'll also be talking to a good friend soon, so that'll take away bad thoughts.
