I don't get this game. Do you just happen to pick up a Pokemon if you see it's near you on your way somewhere, or do you like explicitly set out to find Pokemon as an activity?

They randomly pop up around you with a distance meter. You can play hot/cold with them when they're on your radar or some will just randomly pop up sometimes.

The new one for phones is super watered down and only fun because of the social aspect. The main series ones are more like strategy RPGs, but there's no tactical movement or deep story like ff tactics. There is some depth as far as types (paper rock scissors gone wild) and breeding though.
