Arrival Times

about lunch time Thursday for myself and my wife. This is her first rock concert of anything heavier than Bryan Adams so the culture shock will be new for her.I can't talk her into Thursday's show since she agreed to go to Friday & Saturday so we are still trying to figure out something to do on Thursday.

Hey, there--I'm a PP first-timer who's never been to Atlanta, so I poked around to see what they had around the Midtown area and I found something interesting:

http://www.shakespearetavern.com/

I don't know if Shakespeare is your and your wife's thing, but I hear this place is a good time for anyone/everyone, and the British tavern atmosphere and historical costumes make it a cool experience. They're playing "Midsummer Night's Dream" on Thursday night at 7:30 and I was planning to go--want to meet up for dinner there + show? :)

Why would you miss a full night of shows at ProgPower (The Kick-Off show with Accept, Leprous, Six Minute Century and Borealis) and go watch Midsummer Night's Dream?

I mean, you are coming down for ProgPower aren't you? Might as well get another night of top notch, high quality ProgPower fun.

Su... you mentioned you're a first-timer, so I figured I'd offer the following suggestion...

Even if you don't care for the specific bands playing on Thursday, the event itself will be an absolute blast. You'll meet a ton of people and have a great time. Amateur Shakespeare and faux British tavens are something you can get anytime, anywhere. ProgPower weekend happens once a year and likely won't be around forever. That said, if three nights of a festival atmosphere is overkill in your mind, I understand. We all have our preferences.

hey Su (damn, The Su feels as though she is talking to herself here :o_O )

Shake's Tavern is fun and all but seriously? Thursday night - even if you aren't sure about the bands - will be WAY more fun if you with THIS crowd then off at the tavern...if you want, we could all put on really bad accents for you? :)

Cuz I'm not that interested in the bands playing that night and I'm a Shakespeare geek. Couldn't miss something like the New Shakespeare Tavern while I'm actually in the area~

The bands don't really matter. It's about the crowd. I only bother to restate that because you noted this would be your first ProgPower. You'll see what we mean on Friday and Saturday.

Fair enough. Enjoy.

Understood. If anything, since you're a newcomer, at some point you will learn that ProgPower is not about the bands. However, that comes with time. Enjoy the Shakespeare night, and most importantly, enjoy ProgPower USA. I can almost guarantee this will be your first, but certainly not your last.

Hey! Another Su? :D Someone who shares my pain always getting her name misspelled with that extra "e" at Starbucks, huh?

Ehh... well, I've never been to the Atlanta area and I wanted to get a look at something of it outside of ProgPower while I was there (plus, tickets to the play are cheaper than tickets to Kick-off Night, and I'm kind of pushing my budget as it is already with this trip... ^^;; ). I will sorely miss not getting to hear your awesome Elizabethan accents, but maybe you'll opt for a repeat performance the following night? (with some alcoholic incentives, of course~)

Thanks for the pointers, guys--I really had no idea what PP was all about (just wanted to see Delain and Kamelot really badly). But I'm starting to get the sense that there's a whole lot more to this event than just seeing awesome bands perform.

Can't wait to meet you all there!

Definitely. There's probably a significant number of people who come every year, regardless of their interest in the line up, simply for the environment/experience/community.

Can't wait to meet you all there!
Likewise.

Dustro25(justin) and I (heather) will be flying in on Tuesday the 7th arriving at around 3pm....cant wait....This progpower didnt hook me initially with the line up but you cant pass up an amazing time and learning about new bands you otherwise may never have looked into....Will also be doing a little bit of the touristy thing before it all begins, but you can bet we are there for the whole event!

I will be arriving some time Wed afternoon...driving my brand new 2010 Tribute. First major road trip...yeehaw. Driving from Houston to Atlanta...sweet mother of Hector.

Above all, don't be shy. If you're standing around, walk up to somebody and start talking to them. You won't find a nicer bunch of people anywhere.

My very first PP, I flew to Dallas to meet up with a friend and then we drove from there to Atlanta. Stayed the night some where (forget what state) on the way. On the return trip we drove non stop back to Dallas. 15 straight hours of driving. That broke me....never drove to PP again. Have a safe drive.

Try taking a 22hr long bus ride to ProgPower 3 when you're young, stupid and don't know better.

Flying Friday, arrive at Atl about 430...meet my friend at mom's and depending how we feel might go into town to check out the party at the hotel...were mainly there Saturday for Tarot, then after more party!!!!

You should really enjoy this. I have several friends who are involved with the Tavern's productions -- kinda comes with the territory when you've worked at Georgia RenFaire for years :) -- and they really strive for a great presentation. They tend to use a lot of stage weapons made by my old employer, Starfire Swords, as well. :kickass:

Hopefully Weds afternoon!

Are you still boycotting U.S. Airways?

I am arriving on Wednesday from Phoenix via U.S. Airways at 3:58 p.m.. Am planning to take the MARTA in, but if the flight is late and I end up pressed for time, will probably decide to cab it.
