Non-metal Themed Mixtape Game

Korn - Daddy (demo)
laughably dark and shrill to the point of parody, and it's probably metal, and in places it verges on the southern fried groove i uniformly hate, and it's gay. i don't actually hate this musically but i prefer some of the other korn songs that use basically the exact same beat lol 3/10

UGK - One Day
swallowed under city lights. 10/10

Violent Femmes - Death Country Song

i should check out this album, i was never impressed with the debut but this is pretty wild, and yeah, sardonic in that 'maggie's farm' way i rather like. songs about killing children are never not fun, and the great production really helps. 8.5/10

Marty Robbins - They're Hanging Me Tonight

greatness is pretty self-evident, maybe too one-note to have much replay value tho? 8.5/10

Meiko Kaji - Atashi Umarete Fushiawase

オーロラ!今年の今の時?この日の時刻?国のこの部分では?完全にあなたの台所の中にローカライズ?7/10

Serge Lama - Je Suis Malade

such a fucking arg pick lmao. he's an odd fellow. 5/10

Abner Jay - I'm So Depressed

no kidding. 10/10

Dark Sanctuary - D'Une Mère à Sa Fille

i know this band very well but they're way too flowery and overwrought for me these days. 3/10

Isabel Bayrakdarian and The Minasyan Duduk Quartet - Dle Yaman

dead can dance and co wish they were this. 10/10

Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings - The Way It Will Be

surprised by how lovely this is. 9/10

didn't judge 'thematicness' too hard this time since mine was a little iffy. quality playlist anywho.

オーロラ!今年の今の時?この日の時刻?国のこの部分では?完全にあなたの台所の中にローカライズ?7/10

I've apparently made it far enough into my Japanese studies to figure out this that this was a steamed hams reference without looking anything up. All my hard work is finally paying off!

Does that mean nobody else who played is going to rate? If so, I think it's pointless to keep it open.

Not in on this, but I listened to everything anyways. Anybody else notice that the Dark Sanctuary song was just a shitty rendition of the first nine bars of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata?

Korn - Daddy (demo)
Not without its merits. 5/10.

UGK - One Day
Rather boring. 3/10.

Violent Femmes - Death Country Song
Love the darkness and the twang. 9/10.

Marty Robbins - They're Hanging Me Tonight
I like a good murder ballad but this is a little too subdued. 6/10.

Meiko Kaji - Atashi Umarete Fushiawase
Cool flutes and nice voice. 6/10.

Serge Lama - Je Suis Malade
I likes me the French language, and great instrumentation. 7/10.

Abner Jay - I'm So Depressed
What a whiney whino. He can play guitar adequately. 4/10.

Dark Sanctuary - D'Une Mère à Sa Fille
Melancholy and ethereal vocals usually work. 6/10.

Isabel Bayrakdarian and The Minasyan Duduk Quartet - Dle Yaman
Dead Can Dancey indeed. Real sorrowful, beautiful stuff. 8/10.

Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings - The Way It Will Be

She looks ruff. Not super engaging. 4/10.

You should also rate the songs since you listened to it.

Just for you boo:

Korn - Daddy (demo)

Not non-metal, but a solid pick. 7/10

UGK - One Day
Good on the theme, great lyrics, not big on the music. 6/10

Violent Femmes - Death Country Song
Whimsical and dark at the same time. Never a bad combination. 8/10

Marty Robbins - They're Hanging Me Tonight
Lyrics are great and the voice is impeccable. 9/10

Meiko Kaji - Atashi Umarete Fushiawase
No thanks. 3/10

Serge Lama - Je Suis Malade
My French is almost non-existent, but he mentioned smoking in the first line. Quite french. Instrumentation is meh. Corny. The singer is great though, and from what I can pick up in the lyrics it's more than fitting. 8/10

Abner Jay - I'm So Depressed
Speaks for itself. 10/10

Dark Sanctuary - D'Une Mère à Sa Fille
Low-energy. Can't even play Beethoven right. Sad! 2/10

Isabel Bayrakdarian and The Minasyan Duduk Quartet - Dle Yaman
Good stuff. 9/10

Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings - The Way It Will Be

It's good, but it's not exceptional. I like that they start out with unison before jumping into harmony. That's not too common. Having tenor sing above alto also sounded great. 7/10

Overall, not bad, but not awesome. How did Elliott Smith or Nick Drake not this list?

If I had participated and felt like being an ass, I totally would picked this:
