End of the semester is coming up. I'll try and listen to the playlist Wednesday evening, and the metal one a bit later.
Gentle Giant - I Lost My Head 8.5/10
One of the only well-known progressive bands back then really pushing the boundaries of palatable sound, while still managing to find some success. Great band and lovely sound, huge fan. In many ways it almost sounds like they're trying to repel their fans.
I'm curious why you think so?
I dunno, I just get the feeling that they're really trying to push their fans or something. Sonically and compositionally it's quite unpalatable.

So do I. Well, not very palatable. It's clearly sonically challenging.
Schoenberg, Thelonius Monk, and Metal come to mind by 1976.
even by general music standards back then it wasn't so extreme.
Somehow I doubt their fans were also into these 3 things. Especially not the general music consumer back then.
